The National FFA Organization offers a series of leadership and personal growth conferences. For member conferences, you don't have to be an officer to participate. The only requirement is a desire to grow, learn and have fun.
These Conferences are EDGE, MFE, ALD and the Washington Leadership Conference.

Experiencing Discovery, Growth & Excellence (EDGE)
Designed for grades 7-8
"Agents in Training"
Experiencing Discovery, Growth and Excellence is the 1st component of the National FFA Leadership and Personal Growth Series. It is designed to help all middle school students better understand who they are and where they are heading. The program encourages each participant to interact and to explore his or her common interests with others. Through this process, the student will learn what makes her and all others unique. They will also gain an understanding of how best to serve their home, school and civic communities.
The EDGE Conference:
- Distinguishes between factors that result in self-identity versus factors that result in confidence.
- Describes an interaction between self-knowledge and personal growth.
- Assesses personal interests using an interests inventory.
- Describes an interaction between relationships, respect and decision making.
- Evaluates possible outcomes from taking a personal risk.
- Evaluates future FFA involvement based upon information gathered during the conference.

Made for Excellence (MFE)
"Survivor!"
Made for Excellence (MFE) is the second component in the National FFA Leadership and Personal Growth Series. It is a two-day personal development conference designed primarily for high school freshman and sophomores.
The overall outcome of this conference is personal growth. The personal growth occurs through building student confidence and competence. Students build confidence as they define how to live a life of excellence by building a foundation of talents, skills and will power to persevere. Students build competence as they learn content related to the subject of personal growth. The individual should leave ready to think about how to begin living a life of excellence that will set them up for a transition into the discovery of premiere leadership.
Students will learn to:
- Identify the relationship between excellence and personal choices.
- Identify three pillars associated with excellence-talent, skill and will.
- Assess personal talents using What I do Best from the Gallup Organization
- Identify life skills needed for experiencing excellence.
- Identify the relationship between will power, personal interests and values.
- Describe success as excellence meeting opportunity.
- Choose opportunities using information gathered during the conference for: FFA, SAE, and high school involvement.
- Set goals for experiencing personal success using S.M.A.R.T. checklist.

Advanced Leadership Development (ALD)
"Rock Star - Standing Room Only!"
The Advanced Leadership Development (ALD) conference is the third component of the National FFA Leadership and Personal Growth Series building upon the curriculum of both EDGE and MFE. It offers an experience specifically for high school juniors and seniors. During the conference students will explore the wide variety of careers available in the field of agriculture. Students will learn how best to prepare for their future careers whether through hands-on experience or advanced education, while polishing their leadership and communications skills. Participants will then generate ideas on how to utilize their leadership skills in community service and volunteerism efforts.
ALD Objectives
- Define leadership as influence.
- Identify the true need for leadership in a given situation.
- Identify advantages and disadvantages to exercising leadership.
- Articulate their commitment to the mission of FFA.
- Develop a personal purpose statement for leading in FFA.
- List strategies for building teams through utilizing talents.
- Define team leadership as shared purpose.
- Evaluate the role of team leadership in addressing needs for leadership.
- List the steps in group problems-solving
- Create a solution, using group problem solving method, for an identified problem in a local FFA chapter.
- List opportunities to influence through service at the local level.

Officer & Teacher Conferences
BLAST Off
The National FFA Organization offers a premier development program for state officers to begin their year of service. BLAST Off provides training in life management, presentations, social skills, personal goals and assessment.

National Leadership Conference for State Officers (NLCSO)
The second component of the state FFA officer-training continuum builds on the individual
training received during BLAST OFF. The curriculum for this 3-1/2 day conference focuses on:

Developing, delivering and evaluating presentations

Building relationships between local, state and national levels
This component is presented nationally via 10 regional leadership conferences.

State Presidents' Conference (SPC)
A weeklong leadership conference for two state officers from each association held annually in Washington, D.C. This advanced leadership training builds on the first two components of the state FFA officer leadership continuum. In addition to leadership development, participants develop an understanding of partner relationships and begin the initial phase of the national delegate process.
Conference Date: July 27-30, 2010
